With spring practice kicking off on Wednesday, not only will there be plenty of buzz around the Ohio State football team but also around recruiting as numerous top prospects from all over the nation are expected to be in Columbus throughout the next few weeks. Crete (Ill.) Monee wide receiver Laquon Treadwell is among the top prospects expected to check out Ohio State in the near future. The four-star prospect says he is looking forward to his first trip to Columbus.
"I'll be visiting Ohio State sometime before April 14th," said Treadwell. "I'm looking forward to meeting coach (Urban) Meyer and meeting the coaching staff and seeing the facilities. It will be my first trip to Ohio State."
Treadwell is one of the top wide receiver targets on Ohio State's board and says he keeps in regular contact with several members of the staff.
"I speak to Ohio State about twice a week," he explained. "I talk to coach (Zach) Smith, coach (Mark) Pantoni, and coach (Mike) Vrabel. They're pretty cool, they like to joke around and everything."
The big, athletic receiver has been busy all off-season making unofficial visits and in addition to Ohio State, there are two other schools that he is trying to check out in the near future.
"I'm also trying to go to Oklahoma and I'll be going to Michigan with my running backs coach at my school," he said. "I think the Michigan visit will be in about two weeks."
Treadwell is closing in on 20 offers from some of the nation's top programs but he singled out seven schools that are recruiting him the hardest at this point.
"Oklahoma, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Illinois, Ohio State, and Vanderbilt (are recruiting him the hardest), I think that's about it," he said. "I'm just trying to go on visits and get to know the coaches."
For now, Treadwell says he will keep doing his homework on all of the schools that are recruiting him and doesn't anticipate that he will make an early decision.
"I'm just still calling coaches and trying to get a better relationship with them," he said. "I'm also going to go on some more visits. I'll probably decide after my senior season."
Treadwell is the No. 31 ranked player in the nation and the No. 5 ranked wide receiver by Rivals.com.
